Stars and Stripes, Old Glory, Independence Day, Red, White, and Blue, July 4th, Bald Eagles, Fireworks, and the Statue of Liberty are symbols of our freedom, established 248 years ago by our founding fathers for our independence from monarchy.
Today, we embrace our freedoms and strive towards a more perfect union. While it appears we are more politically, socially, and economically divided than ever, let us remember that even through the politics, battles, and despair of many years ago, we came together as one nation to create the Declaration of Independence.
Independence and freedom are multifaceted ideals encompassing political, social, economic, and personal elements. We have these rights as American citizens, and that alone is something to celebrate!
Political Freedom gives us the right to vote and express our opinions no matter the political party, cause, or person we choose to support. We have the autonomy to choose. This is Freedom!
Social Freedom gives us the right to be who we are, inclusive of all races, genders, and religions. This is Freedom!
Economic Freedom involves the ability to work, create or start a business, and own property or assets without undue interference. This is Freedom!
Personal Freedom is the liberty to live our lives according to our values, choices, and aspirations. It is the Freedom to practice one's religion, the Freedom of thought, and the Freedom to pursue happiness. This is Freedom!
Freedom is a cherished privilege that we can exercise daily. However, freedom comes with responsibilities - we need to balance our freedoms with respect for others and their freedoms. If we cannot respect the liberty of others, we are not worthy of our own. Our founding fathers enacted liberty for all through all political, social, and economic issues during their time. They made history by coming together for the greater good.
Our world challenges our freedoms with authoritarian regimes, economic disparities, and social injustices. There are technological advancements that could threaten some of our freedoms. Freedom requires ongoing effort, thoughtful governance, and a shared conscience.
As we celebrate our independence and freedom this July 4th, 2024, remember that our independence cannot be sustained without freedom for all.
So, enjoy the fireworks as a unifying celebratory symbol of freedom that all Americans can share. For a few moments each year, it is not about political, social, economic, or personal views. Let’s embrace our unity as intended by our founding fathers. Have a blessed and safe holiday!
Happy Birthday, America! We are grateful for our freedom!
